We were spending a week in Cancun and I had figured I would only go to Isla Mujeres once but on day 5 I had to go again. My friend did not want to come as she likes Cancun better (each to their own) so I took off again for Isla.I wanted to do a bit of shopping first and then back to Playa Sol.I saw Jose from Sergio's and he recognized me right away.I then sat myself down at Sergio's beach as it was not flooded this time.Ziggy came down to say hi to me as he recognized me too.Wow I was so amazed they would remember me,what a nice feeling when people recognize you even when I had only been to Isla last January.
After a bit I decided to move to Caribbean Queen since the daytripper boat was idling forever in the water and I didn't know what they were draining off the side of the boat and I didn't want to swim in whatever it was.
I see Maria with the Pepita's who I was looking for last visit and was so happy to find her.I don't know if she recognized me but gave me a hug and I bought 2 bags of pepita's con chili y lime. Now my day was complete since I had my pepita's,ordered a cerveza and had the sun, sand and beach. What more could I ask for???
I just lazed on the beach all day sunning and swimming and enjoying every minute.I then packed up as it was getting to be time to catch the last ferry.I stopped off at Covi to pick up my Kahlua to take home ($110 pesos).I caught my Ferry back and had a little nap on the way back.
I arrived back to my Hotel in Cancun where my friend ordered some nacho's,pizza and Mango Margarita's for us as we had both not had lunch.
This is our view from our room which was really beautiful.
I won't go into my stay at the Gran Caribe Real cause you don't want to know.It was clean and looked really nice so that was just fine but I guess I am more of an Isla girl.
Well the second to last day I woke up early and asked my friend if she wanted to go to the sister Hotel in Playa del Carmen for the day as we could eat and drink free too.So we got ready and caught another R1 bus ($7 pesos)to the Cancun bus station then caught a Greyhound type bus down to Playa del Carmen (340 pesos)which took us just over an hour to get to.We were told that when we arrived in Playa at that bus station that we would have to take a Taxi to Gran Porto Real, well I found it is in walking distance but what do we know? So we arrive at Gran Porto Real and we feel strange about walking in and using the pool, beach and eating and drinking at another Hotel as we have never done this before. It was great and a true 5 star Hotel. What a great day as we grabbed some food at the beach bar which was really good and ordered a drink. We then grabbed a towel and headed to the beach where they have had erosion as there are sand bags all along the water.
We sunned, swam and had a few really cold cerves'a brought to us by a really nice happy waiter.
We had the best day down there in the water finding little colorful fish,a crab and I even stepped on a skate, ray or something under the sand that was probably more freaked out than me but I screamed of course, weird felling when it was flipping and flopping under my foot.
We were all sandy and salty and thought we might ask if there was somewhere to shower off as we wanted to clean up a little and have dinner at that Resort. They were so nice as they gave us a hospitality room with towels, soap, shampoo etc to get cleaned up in.We were in heaven at this Hotel, it was so nice and the staff was much much more friendly than in Cancun. We decided to have a drink in the lounge and I wanted to take a few pic's before it got dark.
We walked down a little and found another beach bar with swings.
We then went into the Albatross Buffet which all the restaurants have the same names as our hotel but let me tell you....
This Hotel had way better food and more choices than our Hotel. Now I love seafood so I was so happy to have seaffod and so many choices of dishes with seafood.Everything was so much better than our hotel.I would stay at this Hotel no problem and be so happy. We had a fantastic dinner and then had to be on our way to get back to our Hotel, darn!
We walked along 5th avenue which has grown and changed since I was there last probably 5-6 years ago.I loved it as it reminds me of a larger, upscale version of Hidalgo.Lot's of great restaurants, bars, shops and great music from so many places. It was all lit up at that time with beautiful lights and candles in the restaurants.Wish we could have stayed but we had to catch our bus's back to Cancun,boo-hoo!
Got back to our Hotel just after 10:30 so after a fun day I was ready for a good night's sleep.
Well it's our last day and we have until noon to check out and Bestday was coming at 1:45 to pick us up so we had to catch the last ray's of sun and have some swims.
Well that's it until next year with a whole month on Isla Mujeres which I really look forward to.
