Isla Mujeres.....the place to be!

This was our first real trip to Isla Mujeres...having been there over 25 years ago on a snorkel trip and lunch. We really messed up by not returning every year from there after...but we arrived and from the first step off the ferry to our last step on the ferry we had a wonderful trip. IT JUST FLEW BY! We couldn't believe how fast our 6 days went.....never been on a vacation that went that fast. We stayed at the Playa La Media Luna....a lovely hotel and nice staff. A little pricey for the accomodations but we were fine with that. We did however check out several other places to stay for the many future trips we plan to make. We have never been anywhere that WHILE you are are planning the next trip THERE!

We arrived just in time to unpack...and head to Sergio's Playa Sol. There we were to meet some friends we hadn't seen in 6 years. They have moved to Isla and love it..DUH!
We all lived in Texas @ Cedar Creek and had many wonderful times together. They were right there @ Sergios....looking relaxed...tanned and sooooooo happy!(of course, they live in a cute little house that overlooks the Caribbean with a wonderful little outdoor bar..who wouldn't be tan and relaxed!) Cerveza's for all..and several more....then some wonderful guacamole. What a beautiful sunset...even though..a little cloudy..who was Isla!
Left there and went to Don Chepo's for vera cruz style...very tasty & fresh. Went to a Mambo Bar and I think we mamboed (is that a word?) I'm sure sure we looked REALLY CUTE!

Woke up to the most beautiful sunrise .... OH MY! Breakfast at La Cazuela M&J's was good...had a first...Chaya juice...supposedly a cure for too much fun. It worked...even had more the next day. Good Stuff.
Rented a little golf cart and took off to see the island. We had THE cool is that. Followed the golf cart tour around the island. Stopped at Playa Lancheros for a cold beer and Tik n'Xic fish. Yum! Hubby had a hamburger...and guess what...they even put a slice of HAM on it! How funny is that! Back to the hotel for a siesta and then off to Hidalgo street for dinner at Miguel's Moonlite....BREADED SHRIMP...awesome! More food than we needed...nice place and he was so sweet. Talked about how well things are going on the island since the hurricane. Thank goodness... There were lots of people out and about and so that is a "good thing".
Here's a little tip about Hidalgo Street......
TWICE! I have never laughed so hard in all my life. People were really giving us the "LOOK". Oh Well.. One night one of the locals came up to us and said..."Where's your cart?" LOL
I guess while in Isla...the thing to do is many places and so little time... We went to Sunset Grill(Yummy guacamole and even better blue margarita's)..Ball Park Taco's (WOW)....Bucaneros(yes..the bacon is good)...Jax(good cheeseburger)...La Palapa Bar(great ceviche)...Casa O's(didn't have lobster)..Rolandi's(flaming coffee and dessert)....Rolandi's Pizza(wonderful caprese salad and the best pizza ever!)....Pinguino's(good breakfast)...Miramar(good breakfast)...Loncheria San Martin(tasty)...and some little Cuban bar on the Lagoon where the boats come in from fishing. This is where I had my FIRST MOJITO! I'm hooked! So refreshing and light...really really good and I am not a rum drinker (yeah right!)...WELLLLLLLLL ....then the next day we went to hang out at Sergio's for the afternoon...I ordered a Mojito and the waiter said they had no mint...I guess it was Sergio .. standing behind the bar who said "If you will wait 10 min I will go get you some mint for a Mojito" and he did! Isn't that just too cool! Talk about customer service...and with a smile! Will remember that a long time...and the Mojito was great!

Later that night....found La Fuente de Yessi on Hidalgo...he makes the best Mojito's ever and cheap...2 big ones for 5 pesos! What a deal!

We saw another beautiful sunset at Bally Hoo...nice place and alot of fun...lots of Jimmy Buffet music!

Rented the little carts 3 times....they are just too much fun!

Our trip went too fast...and we had a marvelous time. hour....!No wonder it was fast!

Now I just look at the time and remember just what I was doing at the same time in Isla....somehow it's all so much better there. Beautiful place...WE WILL BE BACK!
