Day 1: September 15, 2005
Where to begin? Ok, the 13th of September I only slept 2 hours because I stayed up doing homework. The 14th we got no sleep at all because (yes I do everything last minute) I had to get the shopping done for what we needed for the trip and Scott and I both had to pack. We left our apartment at 2 a.m. in order to drive an hour to Pensacola, FL to drop the car off at my sisters and so that they could get us to the airport in time for our 6 a.m. flight to Atlanta. We get to the Atlanta airport and are waiting on our flight and we run into Tony Hawk and Bam Margera. For those of you who do not know, they are both professional skateboarders.....Tony Hawk has Playstation games named after him and Bam has shows on MTV. Scott’s boys are huge skateboarders so we got autographs and pictures, so we are very excited to start our trip off this way.
The flight to Cancun was sleepless. We were so excited to be on our way, it felt like we would never see this day. We arrive at the airport and both get the green light, we walk through the doors to where all the “sharks” are and I remembered someone telling me about that at that point, well I had not told Scott, I kept walking and thought Scott was with me, I turned around and see Scott practically walking in circles with his bags trying to figure out which person to go to, I was laughing so hard. I get Scott’s attention and get him to me and tell him to just keep walking and told him what they were doing, he thanked me for not telling him, lol....oops.
Upon arriving at the ferry dock Scott at first thought I was crazy....................for our trip he bought me a new pair of polarized ray bans..............so when we get there all I can keep talking about is the water and how beautiful it was and he was like, yea, it is nice kinda sarcastically. Well I took off my glasses at some point and realized what he was seeing (his glasses were not polarized) and I made him put on mine. Next thing out of his mouth was: Oh my gosh, the water is so gorgeous and he kept wanting my glasses to see it. I have never seen anything like it before. The water on the Gulf Coast is brown.
Soooo........we make it to the Posada del Mar and Luis checks us in, FYI........he is a little cutie!!! We drop our stuff off and immediately head out to explore. We walked to Hildago and were just exploring. We were at first overwhelmed by the shop owners calling us and you know us "Southerners" are nice to everyone so we did not want to feel like we were being rude and would go into each shop and they would tell us that they gave good deals for honeymooners, LOL...........everyone thought we were on our honeymoon. That afternoon all we did was walk around, look and soak up the environment.
We went back to the room to get ready to go out for the night. Well apparently we passed out on the bed because at 11 p.m. I woke up to a loud banging noise. I was in one of those sleeps that when I woke up I did not know where I was or what was going on and then I realized: I WAS IN MEXICO AND IT WAS THEIR INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!! What a way to wake up, I was so pumped, we went out to the balcony and watched the fireworks. We ran inside got dressed and hit Hildago.
Earlier that day we met Montee........a guy from Houston who's sister has lives on the island. We go on a hunt for their apartment and find it. We hung out some and Montee decides to take us out to the bars. We had so much fun. I don't remember all of the night but I do remember at some point while leaving one bar I was sitting on the curb and on one side of me were people from Switzerland on my left side there was a guy named Mario who was a local, Scott was there, some people from Australia were there.......and I remember thinking how amazing it was that all of us from such different backgrounds were sitting on the same curb and were all having the times of our lives even though we could not understand everything that everyone was saying. It started to rain and we all just sat there, sharing beer and laughter. It was unreal. That is exactly what I was looking for when I decided to go to Isla Mujeres.
We wanted to go watch the sunrise but ended up at a club that locked the doors behind us with some locals and Montee. So when we finally left it was around 7 a.m. We went back to the room to get some rest and to wake up for our second day. Second day to follow.........................
