Hola! It is now the first day of the year...Jan 1/08..the weather started out okay...but then changed quickly...Paul and I did our usual power walk earlier in the day and then had lunch and went for a swim...and then headed over to Avalon to change for dinner...usually my Husband goes early on his own to Jax before we head out for dinner and then I meet him there..I'm just a bit of a slow poke! LOL! It's around 5 p.m. and boy does the weather start to change...WINDY WINDY WINDY and RAIN! Now here I am by myself at our hotel and Paul is at Jax now for around an hour by now...I'm starting to get a little nervous...so I pour myself a glass of wine(and lit up a cigarette...I know it's bad...I only smoke when I have a few drinks...! Yuck I know)...anyway...I am already dressed...just fixing my hair, putting on make-up...and then BANG...I thought the glass broke on our sliding doors...ran out to look and it was all our patio furniture upside down...and I looked down watching other people's furniture fly thru the sky and on to the rocks of the beach...then the lights went out...all electricity...OUT!! Pitch black I am standing in the middle of our studio...but really I can not see a bloody thing...now I am shaking...and scared...for about 5 solid minutes...the power was out and I just crawled on the floor to the bathroom...boom...electicity is back on...I ran straight for my cigarettes and wine and bolted to the bathroom where I could see an emergency light on outside...it was beaming thru our window...and the rain was coming down hard and side ways!!! I could hear people screaming...and see them trying to run to their rooms from my bathroom window looking out...again...boom..no more electricity....so here I am like a teenager..smoking and drinking in the bathroom...oh my god!! I thought I can't just stay here...so I thought I would take a chance on finding a taxi and head to Jax where Paul was....so I put a towel on my head and ran like hell..to the front of the Avalon where the taxi's were...GUESS WHAT?? One single taxi pulled up...5 rather large people fell out....and I grabbed the cab LOL!!! It was the funniest thing I ever saw...these people literally FELL OUT of the taxi...anyway I said to the driver...please take me to Jax...he thought I was kidding...I said to him in spanish...that is where my husband is and I am going to get him...he said si senora...vamous!!(Don't forget the power has been off for around 1/2 hr now)...anyway...I arrive at Jax...towel over my head(like that helped..LOL!) I walked in...Jax was packed with people...still drinking and eating in the dark...they had their tv still working(I guess because of their dish connection), and music was playing...but no lights...anyway..found my husband right away...he was talking to a couple from California...he almost fell off his chair when he saw me...he said he almost left..but was afraid that if he left we would miss eachother...I though great thinking!!! And gave him a big wet kiss!!LOL! Then Henry(waiter) came over with my white wine asked me if I wanted a hamburger...I said really??? He said yep...our staff is working hard in the kitchen...and he said put in your order now...and that is what I did...so I never had to wait for another drink...and the burger came within 10 minutes...it was so delicious!!! It was so much fun talking to other laughing...and just making the best of the situation...it actually turned out to be one of our best nights...it was so funny to see what people were wearing who were determined to get to Jax...one guy wore from head to toe the plastic from his dry cleaning...another took a bed sheet and wore a pillow case on his head...oh my God...it was fun! So we finally just stayed there until the rain stopped and the lights did eventually go back on and of course we met more people from all over the place!
Then we left the Avalon on Jan 3rd...and planned to spend our last 10 days at La Media Luna(we have stayed here numerous times before)...we like it because it is simple and quite and it also over looks the crashing waves...and it is close to everything as well!
So we got packed up in...stayed in the King bed this time...without the whirlpool(we didn't really use it much in the past)still had a great balcony and view! Now off to Jax before we decide where to go for dinner...the usual met a few more people/couples and chatted for awhile...but now we are hungry and start our walk trying to choose from so many great restaurants and end up going to L'Argentine's again!! Yummie shared great salads and mixed grilled meat...and there was this younger couple beside us they looked like models that walked straight out from a fashion magazine..really!! They were speaking a different language...but were dressed casually and they were having some great laughs...so of course I asked them where they were from...they were from Sweden...Charlotte and Lars were their names...well we hit it off and I didn't even eat my dinner we were all laughing, drinking and talking so much...anyway...it turns out that they were only on isla for 3 days and haven't been before...so guess what? We offer to take them on a tour of the island tomorrow...Lars suggests that they rent the golf cart and we would meet them at their hotel Na Balam...so the next morning I load up our fold up beer cooler with lotsa beer and ice for the day...they were on time and we were off...took them to all of the sites on the island...and took them to lunch at Playa Tuburion...which they loved and on the way back took them for a drink at Villas Las Brisas and had their famous dinks in a coconut...it was a blast...so they dropped us off at our hotel and they went back to swim with the dolphins...Charlotte loves dolphins and made plans to meet at Jax later....so we meet up at Jax and Charlotte lit up like a Christmas tree! She loved the island and especially the dolphins....so we had a few more drinks and took them to Rolandis...they loved it...we had pizza, and 4 different pastas...we ate it all and of course had more drinks!! Unfortunately, they had to leave the next day...so we made plans to meet on the beach...but I guess our timing was off and didn't get to say good-bye...but thankfully we exchanged e-mails and since we have been in touch and will continue to hopefully meet up again...either here in Canada, or on isla...or on their marriage destination wedding(which is still yet to be planned)...oh how romantic...and what an amazing couple! I must say this has been our favourite year on isla...had the opportunity to bring our best friends down for the first time with their family and meet some awesome friends who hopefully we will meet again!!! We are also looking forward to utilizing all of our weeks that we purchased at Avalon(one bedroom suite)...we just love the location...we decided on non-inclusive...but we still get free drinks and able to use their gym and the rest of their facilities...so that rocks too!! Looking forward to booking another 24 days this december/january and sharing our time with more of our friends and new friends to meet!! Our last few days...were spent on the beach, enjoying Jax and all of the amazing restaurants...on our final night...my hubby surprised me with renting a golf cart...we were sitting at Jax..of course he was there before I...and after our drinks he said...are you ready to go for dinner? I said sure...I was walking towards Hildago..and he said where are you going?? I said what? He said over here...we are going to a special place for dinner and this is our cart...so I jumped in!! Excited about my surprise...the night was so calm and warm...the wind is blowing my hair around and I am just singing and laughing away with sheer bliss!! Finally, I figured it out...he was taking me to Casa O's...we have never been before! The restaurant was completely lit with candles and soft music playing in the background...the ocean was so calm and the moon was lit so beautifully...we ended up ordering an amazing wine and had steak....pricey!! But it was so romantic! What a great way to end our trip!
Next day was a sad one...but Paul woke me up early to see the most amazing sunrise ever...I cried and cried...and then off to the Ferry...when we were in line...met up with a fellow that we had met from Scottland...he was travelling by himself...and we had met him at Jax earlier that week..and took him out for dinner at Rolandis...what a small world! So he took pics of us..as I was crying again...and we were off home! Until December mis amigos!
