Isla Journal Entry-December 29, 2007

Here once again on Gladysís rooftop, I enjoyed the first morning light today. I could not call it a sunrise as it was obscured by cloud and the Roca Mar. There are seven other sleeping bodies in the three apartments at Gladysís as I write this- my own family and the three girls in apartment B who were partying on the roof with my son until at least 4 this morning. Jeremy decided to break his three month liquor fast last night.

Before this, we had an amazing time with my sisterís family. It was one of those spontaneous/hilarious evenings that you cannot plan or recreate but will link our families forever. It was simple enough-drinks around their pool at the Chac Chi and then an escorted walk to the Stadium for tacos. Ricardo from the Chac Chi was so careful with my daughter. Who knew it would be another one of us to get our foot caught in a cement hole and sustain injury? With attention from Jeremy the medic and some ice, all was well. The tacos were amazing as remembered and the chocolate flan a perfect top off. When the scooter battery was running low, we hailed a cab & I continued home after dropping the gang off at Chac Chi for a midnight swim. My husband tells me that more hilarity continued.

I had a chance to do some shelling yesterday while the family were having siestas. I turned right (instead of left) at the end of Madero and I could not access the shore until I was almost at my former neighbourhood of the airport strip. I found many pieces of shell and coral with natural homes for a chord and the most perfect, round/oval white rock, I have ever seen. It is perfectly symmetrical and unflawed.

We had cocktails last night on our little porch and our enjoying the busy-ness of our street corner. Life is so very sweet here. From Gladysís roof I can see the Caribe to the left at the end of Madero and also over the top of Casa Iseleno II. To the right are the simple rooftops of Centro with Cancun in the distance.
