This trip took place exactly 2 years ago. I have a tendency to put things off. This was the first time that we were going to spend the entire week on Isla. We had visited previously in 1991 and also in 2002 for day trips. We bicycled the island during the 2002 trip. Great fun. This time we were leaving from Nashville, Tn. I had been suffering from a sinus infection for approx a week and a half-bummer. We landed in CUN at 9:30 got through customs. Tried to exit the airport looking for the ADO bus. I was prepared (I thought). What I was not prepared for was the onslaught of workers telling us that there is no ADO bus, or that it only goes to Playa. I stuck with RIA's tips, and found the bus, exactly as he said. Went to Centro, hopped into taxi, got on the ferry, and if like magic, the sinus infection was gone. It was now time for our first Cervesa.
What a terrific ride over to Isla, the colors fantastic. We had reservations at the Maria Del Mar. I remembered this hotel from our bike ride around the island a couple of years before. We walked to the hotel (highly recommended) as it is only about a 10 minute trek. After checking in to the hotel, we immediately went to the beach. It was somewhat windy the first afternoon.
Went to eat that night at Bucannero's.
This evening's sunset was the nicest one of our week.
The rest of the days were mostly a repeat. We go on vacation to purely relax. We were out on the beach at 9:00 in the morning. We would take a walk around the town, and hit the beach and have drinks all afternoon. We could certainly get use to this.
Bridge at Avalon
Hammock at Casa Maya (a rest stop on our walk)
Calm, clear water of Playa Norte
We attended Sunday Mass and found it both enjoyable and interesting even though we speak no Spanish. The Church was of course quite crowded, but they made this visitor feel very welcomed.
Picture after mass.
We rented a golf cart and drove to Punta Sur (very windy) climbed to the top of the light house for this picture
After Garrafon area, we did not go to the park, we continued on and made a rest stop at El Pueblito. Great view and drinks.
We then drove to Playa Lancheros - very wind but enjoyable
We then drove around the colonias and back to the MDM for beach time and relaxation.

A friend at Maria Del Mar's pathway:
We had a fanstastic time. We would highly recommend the Maria Del Mar hotel. It was certainly nothing fancy, but it was very convenient and just the way we like it. Isla is like the town in which we live, only with a excellent beach. We love to be able to walk anywhere we need to go or use a bike. However, it was time to get home to our 3 kids (9,6,3 years of age). I believe they had a great time staying with their cousins. The following year, we watched their kids while the took their inaugural trip to Isla, and they also loved it as newbies.
