Part One

So this report is FOOD PORN...mmmmm...

There are those of us kinksters who just adore FOOD PORN...you will see us in and around various and sundry places all over The Island of Women...we are the ones who go WAIT WAIT I GOTTA GET A PICTURE...right when dinner is served and you are starving...those of us who have not become tragic victims of well deserved domestic violence (for getting in the way of dinner) well us FOOD PORNOGRAPHERS love to spread the yummy looking smut all over the internet...

I got my favorite places to eat on Isla Mujeres, and I am sure that most regulars to Our Island have their favorite places to eat, too...this post is not about restaurant reviews...nope not me...nope this is only about...

FOOD PORN...

My favorite place to hang out on the island or well anywhere on this planet is Miguels Moonlight...very few nights pass for me on Isla Mujeres where I dont at least stop in and say HOLA to Miguel (and maybe have a little tequila)

Miguels is also my favorite place to eat...Miguel is the consummate host...Anything Is Possible My Friend is Miguels unofficial motto...I love the man and I love his joint...so we start with some FOOD PORN from My Favorite Joint In The World...buen provecho...

Pescado Maya at Miguels Moonlight: my personal favorite single dish on the entire island and maybe in all of Mexico...

Another shot of the Pescado Maya at Miguels Moonlight...mmmm...

Miguels Moonlight Special: lobster shrimp and fish in mojo de ajo...a Mexican classic

One of my "special" Mojitos from Miguel...he knows I want my DOS POR UNO all in one big glass...this is My Favorite Cocktail In The Entire Known Universe...

Those are my own personal favorites...here are a few more "greatest hits" from Miguels Moonlight...

Excellent coconut shrimp and mango sauce...mmmmm....

On Christmas Day Miguel served up a special Surf and Turf...Arrecherra Steak and Lobster Tail...and it was great...Feliz Navidad a mi estomago...LOL...

For Christmas Dinner, Miguel also offered up Mayan Style Turkey in Blackberry Sauce...he said the turkey came from his home village...I am not a turkey fan but this looked pretty good...

"Mexican Salsa" at Miguels Moonlight...where I come from we call this Pico de Gallo but it doesnt matter, this stuff is yummy...

I dont seem to have any photos of the guacamole at Miguels Moonlight...thats funny...cause I always order guacamole at Miguels...even when I am actually eating dinner somewhere else...and I have dozens of old photos of the guacamole...but I didnt take any Food Porn Photos of the guacamole at Miguels this time...

A new revelation...well new for me anyway...is Kash Keken Chuc..."that blue place on that corner"...about 2-3 klics down the highway from El Centro...Holly Eats reviewed this place and so I finally got around to trying it, with The Pirate Princess and Cabo Pete...

Mayan BBQ thats what I calls it...yummy is also what I calls it, too...

The menu: chicken, ribs, pork chops...the only other choice is how much can you handle?

Very friendly folks, great service...this fellow was proud to show off his chicken...

Chicken: nothing fancy, chicken with some achiote dry rub, sorta like jerk chicken...rice beans salsa tortillas...thats it...simple but very tasty...

Mayan style ribs...mmmmmm...very comparable to Tino Rib Man ribs...tasty little bites of sweet sweet piggy goodness...they were outta poc chuc (pork chops) that day...something to look forward to on my next visit...

Oooooh so I have more parts to this Trip Report Number Three...a memorable Christmas Eve dinner at LoLo Lorena (heavenly)...the stuff I love to eat on the beach (Ceviche Mixto/Cheeseburgers In Paradise/Guacamole/Pepitos)...Big Breakfasts...El Cejas in Cancun...more to come...more to digest...coming soon...

Part Two: Beachy Grub and Lunch at El Cejas

...and more lurid and lascivious images of delectible dining
in The Mexican Caribbean...

One of my most favorite things to do in this world is Lunch On The Beach...and My Favorite Spot on My Favorite Beach In The World is Sergios Playa Sol on Isla Mujeres...my home away from home...

Gotta have a little something to drink of course...

Yes thats tequila...nowadays, my usual drink of choice on Playa Sol is actually Coke Light a/k/a Diet Coke...how boring...no I dont have any stupid photos of stupid Diet Coke...that would be the opposite of FOOD PORN...

Along with a little something to sip on at the beach...you gotta give Maria some business...I adore those chile peanuts...mmm...but this time I finally got it...I finally got hooked on PEPITAS...OMG...AWESOME...

When Maria asks, SI SI SI...you DO want the chile and you DO want the limon...mmmm...addictive...

After a little nip of tequila, we approach lunch time at Playa Sol on the beach...and Sergios kitchen never disappoints me...I love Ceviche Mixto...

All kinds of yummilicious swimmy things in there...naughty bits of octopi and fishies and shrimps and various other denizens of the deep...

add some guacamole and we got the beach lunch of my dreams...

Oh yeah...I love Playa Sol Guacamole...

Something oozy wet and sticky about guac...perfect for FOOD PORN...

A long standing beachy tradition is that proverbial apocryphal
Cheeseburger in Paradise...

One Sergioburger And Fries...

The Cheeseburger In Paradise was for The Pirate Princess...
for me...
Tacos de Pescado...mmmmm...

Wow...I love this stuff...one lunch we ordered fries, guac and an order of fish tacos...then we ordered two more orders of fish tacos...I wanted to order two more but the Pirate Princess intervened...thanks Kathy for saving me from myself...LOL...

Not exactly Lunch On The Beach but close...Lunch On The Shore...and this time...FOOD PORN from Mininos...

Idylic...beverages and luncheon under the tent...complete with marimba music...

More ceviche mixto mmm...we also had Caracol a la Diablo and Pescado a la Veracruzana that day...and I was soooo distracted by the food and lovely company I FORGOT TO TAKE PHOTOS...(it was that good LOL)

More seafood? Of course!!!

A great excuse to go to Cancun is El Cejas...if you ever find yourself on the mainland and in Cancun run do not walk to El Cejas at Mercado 28...every cabbie in town knows where Mercado 28 is located...and once you get there, you cannot miss El Cejas...

This a great classic Mexican seafood joint...this is where the Cancun locals eat seafood...in the middle of the mercado...

El Cejas "greatest hits" LOL...

El Cejas is big time on the ambiance/atmosphere...always lots of musicians hanging around looking to play for you...El Cejas is like a big tent...and a big menu...

Ya really wanna start with a seafood cocktail...shrimp, oysters, conch, octopus, fish...or All Of The Above, which is called Vuelve a la Vida or Return To Life, reputed to be the number one hangover cure in all of Mexico...

Here we got guacamole...vuelve a la vida...and oysters Rockefeller...what a great lunch...

Vuelve a la Vida and Ostiones Rockefeller...que buen provecho!!!

El Cejas version of Oysters Rockefeller is a little different from any version I ever had in New Orleans...but still very yummy...sorta creamy and custardy...I really liked it...

The menu at El Cejas is almost encyclopedic...almost a history of Mexican Seafood cooking...this is Pescado a la Diablo...very tasty...

When we finish up at El Cejas, a quick turn through Mercado 28 is a good idea...and every holiday season I see this welcome sight...

Yeah I gotcha chestnuts roasting on yer open fire right here pal...

Check out El Cejas at Mercado 28 next time you are looking for a great lunch in Cancun...and shoot some FOOD PORN for me...

Perhaps the greatest and most lurid example of FOOD PORN is a fully engorged and tumescent...thrusting and pulsing...throbbing and fully explicit...

BIMBO DOG...

A toober full of mostly meaty goodness/greasyness...lovingly wrapped in bacon...snuggled into a luscious Bimbo Bun...slathered in mayo mustard and ketchup...covered with shiny slick grilled onions and snappy green jalapenos...Food Porn Wet Dream LOL...

And here we catch two of the worst offending Food Pornographers in the act...of eating BIMBO DOGS...

Yeah its Carl and Whozat...busted eating Bimbo Dogs at the ferry dock at midnight after a tough night at the office, make that Miguels Moonlight...

So the next part is all about Breakfast...and more...plus that memorable Christmas Eve dinner at LoLoLorenas...stay tuned LOL...

Part Three (conclusion)
Christmas Eve at LoLo Lorenas
Mexican Breakfasts
Cochinita Pibil

No way is it humanly possible to top Bimbo Dogs (part two) but lets move on...from the sublime to the sublimer...a wonderful Chrismas Eve dinner at LoLo Lorenas...

LoLo outdid herself for us for Christmas Eve...a seafood extravaganza par excellance...I like the melding of cultures on this one...the finest Mexican Caribbean seafood prepared by a French Belgian food genius...and we had a nice bottle of Chilean wine to go with it...and I photographed it with a Japanese camera made in China...

The first course was what LoLo calls her "Lovers Salad" this was thinly shaved marinated conch...I could eat this all day and all night...

the next course was an appetizer...a stone crab claw, a large prawn and some sea scallops on arugula...all perfectly cooked...

The entree: a cassoulet in a puffy pastry with a lobster tail and mussels, and that big fat langoustine...all served very hot...

The Christmas Eve dessert: a creme puff with raspberries, raspberry sorbet and a sugar free chocolate mousse and wow this was great...

After dinner, there was a brief Christmas Eve visit from a Special Guest...

And a photo op with La Maestra...truly a most memorable Christmas Eve!!!

Relevant to almost nothing except it qualfies as FOOD PORN...here is a photo of an order of Panuchos from Loncheria Poc Chuc...

Oooh I do love Yucatecan food...

They always say that breakfast is allegedly "The Most Important Meal of the Day" well my philosophy is more like "The Meal I Am Currently Eating (and photographing) Is The Most Important Meal Of Any Day" my culinary Zen is "Eat. Here. Now"

I think it safe to say that many of us love our Mexican Breakfasts on Isla Mujeres...I know I do...

the loncheria Alexia y Geovanny in the mercado in El Centro is a good place for a tasty breakfast at a great price...

the kitchen, a family run affair that sometimes seems cluttered and chaotic but actually turns out good food from a large and varied menu, and its one of my favorite places to eat breakfast anywhere...

I like to start with some Agua de Melon...canteloupe water...mmmm...

Huevos Divorciados: he liked his eggs with red sauce; she liked her eggs with green sauce. They dont eat breakfast together anymore...

Huevos Motule˝os: I know next to nothing about the Yucatan city of Motul except that they apparently put canned green peas on their eggs and somehow it actually works OK much to my surprise LOL...

Sometimes Alexia y Geovanny is either full or closed; the other little loncherias are good, too...this is Huevos Divorciados from Surcursal Poc Chuc...lovely...

Another breakfast and another variation on their Huevos Divorciados...

My Pirate Princess prefers her eggs scrambled...this was the first time she ever ate chaya...here scrambled in the eggs with some cheese...it looked good and she pronounced it wonderful...

Amigos is a good place to start the day with breakfast...it is always fun to watch Av Hidalgo come to life...plus Amigos always seems to be the first to open for breakfast on Hidalgo...I like their set price Desayuno Mexicana...Huevos a la Mexicana, beans, toast and butter and mermalada de fresa, plus OJ and American style coffee service...

Eggs scrambled with tomatos, onions and fresh jalapenos...a proper Mexican breakfast...

Another breakfast...a wonderful and most civilized Yucatecan custom...to wake up early on a Sunday morn and head out in search of Mayan style pulled pork, that marvelous Cochinita Pibil...

I know a place, a carneceria in La Gloria, where they have great pulled pig...

So I think these days a kilo of Cochinita Pibil is like 80 to 100 pesos...you can order the stuff by the peso or by the kilo...

half a kilo is 1.1 of our pounds...plenty of tacos for a small crowd or a large glutton...

Gotta have the onions and the super hot habanero salsa to go with...

Next stop on this Pulled Piggy Trail is the tortilla factory...

hot fresh fluffy yummylicious tortillas de maiz mmmmmm...

Grab a hunk of hot pig meat in a tortilla, throw some onion and salsa on there, fold er up and cram er in yer pie hole...what a great way to start a Sunday morning...

FOOD PORN...in all its lurid glory...

if it looks good, eat it...but remember to take photos first!
