My sister and I left Minneapolis in a rather large snowstorm the morning of March 2nd. Our flight to Cancun left about 30 minutes late, but was otherwise uneventful. Nothing that I have read could've prepared me for the Cancun airport. We had booked a transfer with Best Day, thank goodness, or I don't know what we would've ended up paying for. It seemed very confusing.
We left the airport at around 5pm, and didn't arrive at Grand Puerto until almost 7pm. I guess traffic was bad-we were driving in the ditch, on the shoulder, rubbing mirrors with buses-quite exciting. My sister pointed out about an hour into our drive that the "hey-put some gas in me please" light was on...luckily we made it without stopping for gas. I was so hungry-I was chowing on everything I could find in my carry-on. The ferry ride was pretty rough-my sister almost fell off the bench going over one swell. Finally, we arrived on Isla! I had studied and studied my map, and was planning on taking our bags to Bucaneros myself, but decided to have a guy with a cart take them (we really overpacked) We quickly checked in and explored our room. It was very cute, fair sized, huge closet. We didn't have a balcony, but I did hang out the window and get some pictures.
After freshening up, we were starving, and my sister really wanted a cheeseburger. I used my handy map to navigate us to Jax for burgers and a bucket of beer.
We then made the first of many stops at the gelato place for some really delicious gelato. Then it was off to bed before 10:00 pm.
