We arrived in Cancun without incident about 11:30am. We were a little confused after we got through customs, as we didn't realize that all the tourism hawkers were not with transport companies. We told someone we were with Best Day (but they didn't have the uniform) and we ended up in one of the rooms with a guy explaining how we would get to Isla, then trying to sell us tours. As soon as we realized this, I said we were going to stay on Isla and he was quite gracious.
When we actually went outside, we knew enough to just keep walking until we found a Best Day uniform, which wasn't hard at all. We found someone right away and, after a few minute wait, we were on our way. The driver was quite fast, but didn't scare me. We got to the Ultramar and seemed to board almost immediately.
The ride over was wonderful. This was our first glimpse of such turquoise waters and we were mystified. Before we knew it, we were pulling up to Isla, to many waving people (none of whom were there to greet us). We disembarked, went straight to the bank to get Pesos, then caught a cab to our hotelito, Casa Ixchel. We fell in love with Casa Ixchel immediately. A gorgeous view, lovely rooms and friendly staff.
We walked into town and by the time we got there we were starved, so we stopped at the first place we came to--Gomar's. Sol's for $1MP (we had two each), great fish tacos and decent beef fajitas.
Now feeling better, we made our way over to Sergio's and plopped down in lounge chairs. We got there just in time to start happy hour and ordered two margaritas. This meant we got four and they were blue. Oh well, we drank them anyway and rested on beautiful Playa Norte...our first time. Ahhhh.....
After dozing, then watching the sun set behind clouds on the horizon, we walked back down to the taxi stand and caught a cab back to Casa Ixchel, $20MP. An early night...not even any dinner, just a big afternoon meal and great sleep to sounds of the Caribbean. We were in love with Isla already.
