Isla Newbies - Isla in May - Day Three & Four

By: LeslieC
Date: 5/15/2005

Today we deceide to go to Garrafon Park. We had heard about the hotel next door to Garrafon where you could spend the day for $3.00, but we liked the idea of having a nice pool, lockers, bathrooms, etc. so we deceide to spend the extra money on Garrafon. The park is very big and you really need a map upon entering. They give you an informational pamplet, but no map. Eventually we find the lockers and bathrooms, but no changing rooms! I had to change in the bathroom, which was kind of tight. After locking up our personal belongings, we get a couple of life jackets and pick out a couple of chairs. Next we go snorkeling. Upon entering the water I'm happy to see some small fish. We swim along the rope that seperates you from the coral. We see some nice fish & coral. Swimming out alittle further we see a barracuda. After snorkeling and lunch we go over to the walk way that leads to Punta Sur. What a beautiful walk, the ocean is so green and blue, the rock formations are really cool and it's a very clear day, you can see Cancun very clearly. We take alot of pictures along this walk and then eventually head back to the pool to cool off. By now the pool is pretty crowded, along with the park. We snorkel again and see some more fish in the coral. We see schools of black & blue fish, barracuda, huge parrot fish and a beautiful black and yellow angel fish. All in all I'd say the snorkeling was good.
We deceide to have dinner at the hotel restaurant. I have the filet mignon and Hubby gets the chicken kabob. Total bill with 2 drinks comes to $40.00. The food was surprisingly good. The cat that sat next to me liked it too!
After watching the sun set we walk the beach looking for sea shells, none tonight! We sit by the pool for a bit & watch a pitiful looking dog relentlessly scratch herself. Poor thing, we feel so bad for her.
Upon reaching our room Hubby is'nt feeling so well, so he spends the rest of the night being sick. He must have gotten dehydrated during the day...poor baby. :( I give him some peptobismal & Gatoraide.

Day Four
Hubby is feeling alittle better then he did last night, but he's still in bed. I spend the rest of the day at the hotel beach on a pool lounger. It was a nice day, hot, sunny with a little breeze. Hubby comes down around noon time feeling better! We spend the rest of the day at the beach enjoying the ocean and the pool. We eat again at the hotel restaurant and then watch the sun set.

Garrafon Park - Beautiful area with plenty of amenities, the cliff walk is beautiful. Snorkeling is good.

Cristalmar Restaurant - Good food and service. Drinks melt very quickly. Prices OK.
