For those of you wondering why this is being posted so late I will fill you in. I posted day one of a recent trip and “luckybucky” recognized me and brought up this trip, one we thought worth writing about. Hope you enjoy it and find it as funny as we did!
This trip came to be after our friend James gave us a call on Feb 11th (James and Donnie have been friends since birth.) He had decided the weather forecast to be too cold for the upcoming week and was giving his employees (he owns a construction company) the week off, did we want to go somewhere warm? Well you don’t have to ask me twice but I calmly (while mentally jumping up and down) told him that he would need to speak with Donnie.
I am going to confess, I have this theory that if he asks Donnie and Donnie says “yes” then it is Donnie’s idea (not mine) therefore “his trip” and saving a “trip” for me to ask for at a later date! (by the way, Donnie does not read this site, so my secret is safe, right?) Seems a little deceitful, but I like to think of it more as “being creative” J! Well, of course Donnie said yes and I rushed to the computer to book our tickets. A little later in the day I realized it was the start of carnival, perfect timing for me as I had always wanted to experience that. I called ahead and tried to secure 2 rooms (I know, kind of pushing it at this point on the calendar )….nothing was guaranteed and with my limited Spanish, I THOUGHT we had a room or two.
The flight was uneventful and we had booked Cancun valet, their service was great as always. I can’t remember all the details from the trip but will hit on a couple highlights.
We spent a day going around isla on a golf cart. Sat down on the south end for a few hours enjoying the brilliant sunshine, the incredible view and the great company of a couple (Veronica & Stieg) from Norway (I think?)
They had been traveling the world over for the past four months..Africa…Australia….Fiji…and countless other places. Can you guess what their favorite place had been to date? Isla!! I found that impressive and found myself pretty lucky to have found this beautiful place to visit and enjoy. We made the typical stops around isla, Lanchero’s, Zama’s, etc….then back to town.
Every night was spent out and about in the downtown/north beach area. We always end up meeting countless others as we make our way thru the night. At the North beach ended up doing shots with a few lawyers from MPLS. Pretty handy in case we needed legal representation, not that we thought we would…..but you meet everybody for a reason! We took their card LOL. Down the beach a t Buho’s we meet a group of police officers from Tennessee (I think) The names all escape me now, but you could have asked me an hour later and this could have been the case. It seems everyone we meet we always end up seeing later, something I love about isla.
Myself, James and Tina at the “Stump Bar” ( I started calling this bar that in fall of 2006, our friends living on isla find it funny)
Later at La Lomita’s.
I have to tell you that Tina was not extremely happy as I brought them back to this restaurant to have dinner . She is somewhat of a food snob and she was less than thrilled at my “backstreet” choice, it is one of my favorite places! She did not even want to order so I ordered her a Chili Relleno, which she enjoyed…but would not admit.
