Isla Mujeres

March 13 Day 18

“Time To Leave…But The Magic Lives On Forever….”

After 20 incredible days in paradise, the final dawn has arrived. I set the alarm for 5:30, but I’m easily awake before that. Even the sun isn’t up yet…

Out on the balcony I sit in the chair and gaze at the view and the reality hits me. It is so difficult to leave. I can feel a lump in my throat and my stomach is churning. Isla Mujeres began as day trips for us in 2002, then a 7-day stay in 2003, a 12-day stay in 2004 and now an 18-day stay in 2005. Can I possibly dream of more in 2006?

The sun peeks above the horizon as I sit in my solitude and dream…

The memories of another wonderful holiday drift into my brain and I begin to feel the tears prickling my eyelids and yet, a smile is on my lips. What an amazing time we have had once again. How I wish I could bottle the feelings and happiness that this little island inspires in us.

As the sun creeps higher I realize that the suitcases await. Vince joins me on the balcony and we enjoy the view together…memorizing it forever….

In record time the bags are packed and the time has come. We reach for the door and take one last long look at ‘home’…

Coming to the bottom of the stairs, Ino is waiting for me…not behind his counter as usual, but right at the stairs. He looks as sad as me! We share a big hug and I thank him so much for another Roca Mar nuthouse experience. I look at his eyes and swear that I see some tears and that does me in. The floodgates open and the tears fall. With a promise from Ino that he will be here waiting for us next year, I give him one more hug and then it’s time to haul the suitcases to the ferry. Looking back over my shoulder I whisper adios one last time.

The suitcases bump over the cobblestones and the ferry is waiting when we arrive. It’s no fun at all to purchase a one way ticket.

Onto the ferry we go….

…and with suitcases stowed we go to the upper deck to enjoy the view…

The engines are running and we begin the journey back to reality…

Hasta luego Isla Mujeres….our hearts and dreams remain on your shining shores…
