Thursday morning finds us back at the French Bistro for our usual breakfast. Afterwards, Butch and Kay want to take a trip around the island on the cart. The four of us proceed to tour the island, driving the streets in La Gloria and come across this sheep in someones yard... Baaaaa! We also took a trip down the Sac Bajo road…we heard that Cristalmar was closed and we stayed at that hotel for years, so we had to stop by and check it out for ourselves. It is sad to hear and see this hotel vacant; hopefully they are able to get something going again.
Later in the afternoon, Joe and I take another trip out to go shopping for the last of the gifts we want to pick up. We are shopping in the craft market by Poc Na, when Joe discovers a vintage signed picture on the wall with Steve Ray Vaughan and Mick Jagger. We later heard that they visited the island for a short time years ago.
After shopping for a little while, we drive out to the Turtle Farm to make our annual visit. Unfortunately, I think I read on the board that they are closed now.
About this time we start thinking about lunch and want to stop and pick up poc chuc on our way back to the hotel. As we are heading to Kash Keken Chuc, we drive by a stand selling tamales and it is my chance to try a tamale. We stop to buy one then continue on to pick up some poc chuc for the other 3. Lunch in hand, we head back to the hotel where everything seems to disappear rapidly. The tamale is okay from this stand, but I will have to give it another chance sometime and will be sure to get it from Kash Keken Chuc on tamale night.
We get a beautiful sunset tonight and take some pictures.
Tonights dinner is at Cuba Libre. Butch and Kay both order Cuban sandwiches and Joe and I order the breaded grouper...I swear Joe is developing gills this trip! Victor serves very large meals and we have absolutely no room to fit in any dessert. As usual, all our meals were wonderful! We take Butch and Kay back to the hotel and Joe and I go back out to Miguels for one last late night hurrah with the band and a few more drinks. Since we have to get up really early Saturday morning for our flight, we know we will not be staying up late tomorrow night and decide to make the most of it. We end day 13 in the morning of day 14.
