Day 6, April 3

Tuesday, April 3, Day 6
I slept until almost 10 am this morning. I got up and had a glass of fresh squeezed OJ, that we got from the market next to Alex & Giovanny’s, and sat out on our patio and listened to the ocean waves. Lauren was up early this morning and was now sitting out on the rock out front drawing.
It was another beautiful day in paradise. There has been quite a strong breeze blowing every day but the sun has been shining. I am starting to get used to the heat and humidity. The first few days were stifling. About 12:30 we were ready to head down to Dolphin Discovery. We had an appointment to swim with the dolphins at 2pm. Lauren decided yesterday that she really didn’t want to swim with the dolphins. Well, I wasn’t wasting $125 so she was going like it or not. We have been swimming with the dolphins twice at Discovery Cove, a Sea World park, in Orlando, FL. So this would not have been her first time to swim with dolphins.
When we arrived they checked us in and said that we could wander around until it was our scheduled time. The area was pretty. It had a couple of nice swimming pools and a gift shop as well as an ice cream shop.

We watched the people interact with the dolphins until it was our turn. We watched a film and by 2:30 we were in the water. We were having fun until we got into the water and Lauren’s life jacket was choking her. She let the dolphins pull her through the water while holding onto their dorsal fins and she did the foot push but after that she wanted out of the water. After going there I don’t think I would go again. I know a lot of you out there are very against the treatment of these dolphins and after seeing everything here compared to Sea World’s Discovery Cove, I can actually say the quality of the program for the people and the dolphins is like night and day. I don’t want to start a whole discussion on this so I will leave it at that. If you want to swim with the dolphins….go to Discovery Cove in Orlando.
When we got through there Lauren was in tears and she wouldn’t talk to me. We rushed off to La Gloria English School to work with our class. We arrived just in time for our 4pm class. Just what the doctor ordered. Lauren loves the kids in our class and so do I. She started to smile and wiped away the tears. I am really getting to know the personalities of each child. Especially the 3 that I sit with at my table. From left to right, Luce (12), Yeseti (13) and Lahandro (12).
The two girls really pick on Lahandro. They got really happy when I would compliment them on their work. By the time we left the school we both felt better and we were starving!
I had only eaten a hand full of pistachios and some OJ all day. I wanted to try Velasquez but they only offer seafood and Lauren won’t eat seafood. Sooo we headed over to Sancochos.
Lauren at Sancochos:
I ordered chili rellanos (1 meat & 1 cheese) they were huge! $90 pesos
Sancochos Chili Rellenos:
Lauren got the chicken stuffed with cheese and mushrooms. $80 pesos.
Sancochos chicken with mushrooms:
We also got guacamole & chips for $30 pesos and a coke and a water $15 pesos each. It was all delicious! When I ate the first chili relleno it made my eyes tear. I had them before at La Lomita and at Manolos but I didn’t remember them being so hot. So I dissected the beef rellano and realized it had jalapeno peppers in it! I picked them out and enjoyed the second one much more. My lips were still burning from the first one. Here is a picture of a meat platter for 2 that 3 people were sharing right next to us. The guy said it was $200 pesos and they had had it before and really enjoyed it.
While we were sitting at Sancochos we looked across the street and saw this sign
I realized it was Tuesday and they have a 2 for 1 special on Tuesday night! So when we finished our dinner at Sancochos we went over and ordered 2 medium ham & cheese pizzas to go for $95 pesos. We love to just hang out at PPII for the day and have something to eat. So we can eat these pizzas tomorrow.
Preparing our pizza
Ah yes, our pizza!
I was trying to get a picture of the chandelier but this cute dude was standing there:
We saw our neighbors eating at Frances Bistro as we were leaving and stopped to visit with them. We were both so tired we headed back to the room. Here are a few pictures we took along the way.
Sunset after a few drinks:
We both laid down and fell asleep at 8pm. I got back up after an hour and wrote in my journal and sat out on the patio to listen to the ocean- music to soothe the soul. I read until 1 am then slept like a rock.
Another great day in paradise.
