May 27, 2006 -- Saturday
On the trips back to town in the morning (remember, we have two suitcases & one scooter to return) I try to get some pictures of smiling locals.
They are all so sweet. Steve takes us by the Caribbean side one more time and I mention to him that I still havenít seen the Crayola house. Someone from the forum gave it that name. So perfect! We look up to the homes and there it is! A short detour to get a close-up and my trip is complete!
Steve gets a kick out of this VW convertible!
One last look at the beautiful shells on the beach.
The narrow part of the island. Looking across the airstrip to the bay side.
We drop off the scooter and say ďAdiosĒ to olí #9.
We take our last walk with our luggage clacking against the street, past the Urban Hostel,
past Capt. Tonyís, past this lady peeling mangos,
and another setting up shop for the day.
I buy one last bracelet at the UltraMar Ferry dock trying to use up our last $13 in pesos. Steve opts for an ice cream and a soda after which ...
I have to peel him off the support beam. All morning all Iíve been hearing is ďI donít wanna go!Ē and seeing this pouty face.
We pass the UltraMar headed for the island. I wish we could hop over and go BACK!
and, YES, even on a cloudy day, the water really IS that color!
Best Day is not waiting for us! Iím ready to bail and get a taxi. Steve calms me down. "We have plenty of time," he says. They arrive 15 minutes late.
This is what was waiting for us at the airport! It took us a good hour to get through the line but we make it with time to spare. If you've never done this before, don't panic! There are people that ask you which airline you are flying on and take you to the end of that line. It was a piece of cake!
When we arrive in Houston, we barely make our connecting flight because we have to go through customs. Thank God we only had carry-on luggage. Several people had to wait for their luggage and then re-check it back in. Next time I will give us a 3-hour layover instead of 2. I sure hope there will be a next time!
When we got home, the water pressure in the shower nearly knocked me down and the phone was ringing off the hook!
Thanks for joining us on our vacation! I hope I didnít bore you too much. It was beyond wonderful for us and Iím thankful for this website to allow us to post such amazing memories. Itís something we can look back on for years to come.
We enjoyed incredible snorkeling, met wonderful people, had great service and never a bad meal, did not get sun burnt, didnít get sick and didnít plug any toilets! What a success! And stayed below our $2000 goal.
Thank you, Isla, youíve been a wonderful hostess!
