March 4 Day 9

“Vince Gets His ‘Hog’”

After a great sleep (yes, the ear plugs are still in at night!), I wake up just in time to catch a bit of the sunrise…

Under the covers for a little extra siesta and by 8:15 we’re on our way out the door. Vince is craving M & J Cazuela’s for breakfast today. We find Jan and Bruce there, already enjoying their breakfast so we join them. I quickly run back upstairs to get the beach bag that I found for Jan in Playa del Carmen. She likes it! Vince enjoys his Omelet Holbox while I just have toast and that wonderful freshly squeezed orange juice. We pay $125MXP to a very busy Pedro.

Saying adios to Jan and Bruce we make our way down Guerrero to find ‘Cheeklet’ at the moped rental shop. We decide to get our bright yellow Honda moped for the next 7 days…total cost was $1750MXP. They filled up the gas tank and with helmets on, we zoom off…Vince is all smiles.

Back to our room to change for the beach and gather our goodies for the day. In no time we’re at our favourite beach near Buho’s. I tease Vince a little…doesn’t he look like a big bumblebee?! Teehee

With the pareos arranged in the soft sand, we get comfy and pass the day reading, swimming and just enjoying the view. It’s nice and warm today at 31C and 55% humidity, with no sign of the storm that hit us yesterday. In the later afternoon, the waves did get a little stronger and suddenly they seem to be washing up on the beach. This is strange!

People had to quickly get up and move their chairs. Wonder if the beach will still be here tomorrow?

Vince is itching to take ‘Pepe the hog’ for a ride, so by 3:30 we leave the beach. We stop in at our room to drop off our beach things and then head off for places unknown. Down the east side we go, past the lake and then onto Punta Sur where we admire the view…

We realize that it’s getting close to sunset time, so we race up the west side of the isla, stopping to catch the view…

Back on Vince puts the pedal to the metal and we make it to Sergio’s just in time…

We don’t find any amigos at Sergio’s tonight so we watch the sun dip into the sea…

…and then scoot off back to our room to clean up for dinner. Do you know how tangled hair gets when it’s full of salt and wind!

We wander Hidalgo and our noses lead us to Los Amigos for dinner. Vince has his usual Negra Modelo but I enjoy the strongest strawberry margarita so far. They bring us a garlic tortilla puff to nibble on while we wait…yummy. We both order the red snapper filet grilled with garlic. It arrives with some wonderful rice and potatoes and carrots with fresh rosemary. I’m impressed and it is delicious! The total with tip is $280MXP.

The margarita has left me giggly, but we weave our way up Hidalgo to our usual Internet café. I have a lot of trouble typing out some emails…must be the keyboard, right! (We had to go back the next day and check out what I wrote!)

By 10:30 we wander our way back home and snuggle under the covers. It’s down to 24C but the humidity is up at 64% so it feels a little cool tonight. The wind is also brisk so I pop the ear plugs in again and drift off into margaritaville dreams…..
