Isla Mujeres 2010

Day 16-17
February 27-28

February 27 – Day 16

I knew it would be a beautiful sunrise….it had to be….

Vince and I sit together on our balcony…….sharing our thoughts…..crying together, but smiling too as we think of all the fun things that the ‘3 geckos’ did….the nickname that Sandi, Vince and I had for ourselves…..

Today would be a day of melancholy for me…a time to remember and a time to cherish those special memories. Today is the 8th anniversary of our vow renewal at the Iberostar Paraiso resort, south of Cancun. A very special celebration that we shared with our friends Bob and Sandi. Sandi and I spent months planning our day, and it was absolutely perfect.

And now, with Sandi’s passing in January, I think of all the times that we shared in Mexico, and how I wish there could have been more of them, but I know she’s here with me, always……

Later in the morning we make our way to Playa Norte….the norte is blowing hard there so we search for another spot. We wander over past Na Balam but it’s windy there too. Then we try Playa Sol and south of there…all windy! How can that be? We finally think of one last option….the beach by Poc Na hostel…ahhhh….perfect….no wind!

Hop on the amigo train!

Stacey and Colin being cozy on the beach….

We have a great day here….it was hot and we managed to find a spot to cool off in the water. One note about this beach…if you’re walking in the sand from the hostel area access to the beach…wear shoes…..we found pieces of glass in the sand.

Jan, Bruce, Jean, Rich, Stacy, Colin and Vince and I have reservations at La Luna tonight. We’re already looking forward to another fabulous meal there as we were so impressed last week. Well, unfortunately, we weren’t quite as impressed this time…..a number of things just didn’t work out….Jan and Bruce’s meals arrived about 20 minutes before everyone else’s…..Stacey’s steak was cold and my fish which I had loved last week, wasn’t quite the same either. Presentation was still nice….

We forgive them though as I think it was a new waitress that was just having a tough night ( I tipped her a lot just to encourage her to keep trying! )….and we told Chris and Dean that we loved the place, but if you want repeat guests, you need to be consistent. Every restaurant has an off night. Vince and I ate here again many times over the rest of our holiday and were never disappointed.

And then it was time to salsa! The Cuban band entertained us and we huddled under blankets to keep warm! A dance or two later and it was time to shiver all the way home under a beautiful moon…..

February 28 – Day 17

The last day of February…..and another beautiful sunrise to start the day…..

Vince says it’s time for a moped ride. The air is very clear today and we can see Cancun perfectly….

While we’re driving, Vince comes to a screeching hault! “What’s wrong?!” He though it was cool to see the odometer changing over….

We spend the day on the Poc Na beach again…too much wind on the other ones and it’s actually really quiet and peaceful here…no vendors and not many people either.

Another moped ride to see one of the few pretty sunsets that we’ve had so far…..

And what a gorgeous moonrise…..so much natural beauty all around us each and every day…..
