Isla Mujeres 2006

Day 21 – March 13

“Savour Every Moment….”

I’m up long before the sun, sitting on the balcony, taking in the sights, sounds and smells of a new day. Why is it never this special to wake up when I’m at home?! There is a bank of clouds on the horizon so it takes a while for the sun to peek through…

Vince is still snoring away but I’m wide awake, so it seems like a good time to start organizing the suitcases. I always hate trying to fit everything back in…it never fits like it did when we came down here! I get at it though, and by the time Vince wakes up, I have most of the packing done. He suggests a morning ride on Pepe…I can already see how sad he is that we have to take Pepe back later today. Off we go, taking a tour through the colonias, enjoying all the colourful homes….

Even the concrete fencing has been given special treatment….

We follow a street across to the west side of the island….

A church door is being refinished….

And this is my favourite little house…sure wish it was mine!

We make our way back home where Vince drops me off at the Super Express to get some bakery goodies for breakfast. We enjoy our treats on our balcony…

What a wonderful view….

It’s time to hit the beach…back on Pepe for the short ride to Playa Norte near Buho’s. No matter how many times I see it, the first view always takes my breath away…

We don’t need any shade today…gotta get as roasted as possible! We make our way to our spot near the lifeguard tower and get comfy…

Vince enjoys a siesta or two!....

From my perch on the tower, I take in the view….to the north….

….to the south….

The palms are recovering nicely from Wilma….

I don’t remember seeing hobie cats here before….

When Vince wakes up I give him an annual job…out in the water to take some photos…don’t drop the camera!

He needs a Sol after that!

It’s time for our afternoon zoom on Pepe, but I need a dip first…ahhhhh….

Off we go again…wonder if Pepe is getting as dizzy as us with all these circle tours! There’s always something new to see, something that we haven’t noticed before. We arrive back in centro, just in time to drop off Pepe and get to the beach for sunset….our last one. It will be a beautiful one….

Someone has been very busy in the sand today!

The sun dips lower….I wish for time to stand still….

Turning around, the view is just as pretty….

We stand together quietly, memorizing this moment, wishing it would last forever!

The sun silently slips below the horizon….it’ll be another 49 weeks before we see that again.

Walking slowly through the sand we come out onto Rueda Medina and notice all the sand that has been deposited there from the last few windy days…

We have no moped to get us home quickly, but we are quite happy to walk so we can take in all of our surroundings. After cleaning up, we decide to go back to Angelo’s for dinner again. Maybe we are stuck in a rut, but we knew we would have a great last meal there, so why not!

Tonight we have pizza and salad….all very good! Sure could eat one of those pizzas right now!

We make room for some yummy fresh fruit dessert at Color de Verona….can’t wait to have that again too!

We walk slowly along Hidalgo, knowing how much we will miss these evening after dinner walks together. Do we really have to go tomorrow???

…to be continued…..
