Isla Mujeres Trip Report 2005
Tuesday May11 Travel Day
We get to the Rockford Airport at 6:45am. We find a good parking spot very near the terminal and it is free, I am liking this already compared to Midway Airport last year. We are the first to check in, get our boarding passes and through security, this is a real breeze so far. We chatted with a dive shop owner heading to Cozumel, he was a very informative person to talk to.
We took off 10 minutes early, the plane had 60-70 passengers on it. We arrived in Cancun at 12:00pm a ½ hr early. I had arranged a ride with AGI Tours to be picked up to go to the ferry, our driver did not arrive until 1:00pm just as I was making a deal with a taxi driver for a ride he showed up. The driver was to take us to Puerto Juarez but he took us to Gran Puerto instead -oh well- I thanked him and paid him . We bought our tickets for the ferry, the boat was just arriving and we got on and we are on our way to Isla! We had decided to walk from the ferry dock to the Posada Del Mar Hotel with our luggage “good exercise” I think the hotel had moved farther away since last year. We checked into the Posada, changed into our swimsuits and headed to get a light lunch and go to Playa Norte. We had chicken tacos at Don Chepos. A good light lunch for 3tacos for 35 pesos and I had to have some guacamole, I had been craving it as it just doesn’t taste as good in Wisconsin. We ate and headed for Playa Norte, I was excited to see my daughter and mother-in laws impression of it. They thought it was awesome! We had a drink at Sunset Grill, the drinks were ok. We spent the rest of the afternoon in the sun on the beach at Playa Norte. We went to our rooms, got cleaned up and ventured out for supper at 7:00pm. We went to Valesquez for our first supper on Isla. We had drinks and 2 grilled fish fillets 1 grilled shrimp and 1 grilled fish fillet w/garlic. Everyone agreed the food was very good, and for 350 peso w/tip! After dinner we just bummed around the rest of the night, checked out the shops. We walked to the seawall and the walkway. I could not believe what the hurricane did to the seawall and the walking path. I am sure over time it will be rebuilt, hopefully before another storm hits. We decided to call it an early night and get an early start in the morning.
