Isla Mujeres 2011

Day 1-2
February 11-12

A long overdue trip report, but hopefully better late than never!

Day 1
Friday Feb.11

After our usual red eye flight we are on the ferry by 2pm….giddy and silly with happiness to be back in our ‘Isladise’. We enjoy the always breathtaking colours of the water, along with the tattered flag!....

Our first few hours pass in a blur…..a quick unpacking in our home away from home (more info on that ‘Isladise’ later), a dinner at Rolandi’s with friends and then it’s time to head home again to pack a bag for our off island excursion to Mérida….whew!

Day 2
Saturday Feb.12

We’re up with the sun but no time for a photo as we’re off to the ferry with Brenda and Brian. A taxi to the bus station where we hop on the ADO GL bus for a comfy, quiet 4-hour ride.

A short taxi ride to our home for the next 3 nights….the awesome, incredible Casa Pocito, a beautifully restored colonial home…. Highly recommended!

Our front door….

The boys…..

The foyer….bathroom on the right with the first living room beyond…

Brenda and Brian’s bedroom….

The first living room….

The dining room….we enjoyed a Valentine’s Day chocolate here!

The kitchen….

Our bedroom…..

The peaceful breezeway between the 2 living areas….

The second living room that opens out to a small courtyard and plunge pool….

No explanation for this….just high on life!

After oohing and aaahhing over our home, we hit the streets… search of a bar, of course! On our way we pass one of the many pretty parks…..

And then we find the cantina that Brian had been searching for. Waiters pounce on us and we are quickly seated, drink orders taken. And the food arrives! Did you order this? Nope! Our first introduction to ‘botanas’ aka tapas aka free food! The more drinks we order, the fancier the food gets. The service is awesome, the food is delicious, a live band is playing…..I need to pinch myself, this is so much fun!

Off to wander the streets…..

And one of many markets…..

Never did have a carriage ride…next time!

And then we find this place……see that balcony that overlooks the main square?’s got my name on it!.....

To be continued…..
