Isla Mujeres

Day 9 Friday February 22

“Round and Round The Isla We Go”

It’s 6:30 and where else would I be?....

Back to bed for the usual mini siesta and by 8am everyone is up and ready. Vince goes in search of a golf cart and today he is lucky. I head off to ‘Beat’, the Internet café on Guerrero while Vince and Jason enjoy breakfast at M & J Cazuela’s. A quick stop at the bank and then Jason does some really quick souvenir shopping…bottles of vanilla for the chicas back home. I think he’s hoping that they’ll be doing some baking for him!

By 10, we are on our way. Jason captures this common sight…

We head down the east side. It’s quite windy today and the colours are beautiful as always.

I go in search of shells, but nothing special to be found today…

Jason and Vince find the perfect perch to enjoy the view….

We continue on our way with a stop at Punta Sur. Up the lighthouse we go…

The ‘underside’ of the stairs that wind up to the top…

If you ignore the ‘sculptures’, it’s still a beautiful vista…

Looking up the east side of the island…

Ok, my hair took flight, but we’re still a happy family!

We head back up the east side for a while and then across to the west side and up Sac Bajo. Towards the lagoon..

This little palapa has seen better days!

Some posies and butterflies along the way…

And then we come across Zama’s….one of our favourite places to spend a quiet relaxing day. I’m sure it has progressed since this photo. It’ll be interesting to see how it all turned out. It won’t be the same but hopefully, it will be even better.

We go all the way to the far end of Sac Bajo. Vince and Jason want to be adventurous and we turn up the sand road, not knowing what it may lead to. It’s gets very isolated and the road also gets very rough, so I make the boys turn around. We zoom back the other way and decide to explore a little beach….perfectly serene and peaceful…

No time to linger too long as tummies are growling and we have more things to see. On our way to El Pueblito, we see this…..hey, a fellow Canuck! Car is looking a little sad though!

We find a table at El Pueblito and sit back to enjoy the view.

A friendly kitty joined us for lunch…

We order chips and salsa, 3 beef tacos, 2 cokes and 1 cerveza…$150MXP including tip. Service was great and the food was really good…the beef was very tender and had a great flavour.

A funny sign at Pueblito…

Time to hit the road again. We stop at Garrafon to enjoy the view. Jason uses my sunglasses to capture the colours of the water…

Around the corner by Punta Sur once again…

The infamous Shell House…

Through the rock wall…

As we head up the east side, we come upon a ‘day tripper golf cart caravan’. I guess that’s why we had so much trouble finding a cart!

We stop in at the beach again as it appears to be feeding time for the many birds there…

The wind has really picked up and the waves are crashing…

Time for some rest and relaxation. We make our way back to centro and head straight for Buho’s and Playa Norte. Ahhh….

It’s toasty warm and Vince and Jason head out into the big bathtub…

We roast and swim for awhile and then it’s time to hop on the cart again. Off to the colonia and our favourite bakery. We get some sugary buns filled with cream cheese and some very moist banana bread.

Jason captures some of the wonderful people of Isla…

I love this photo….I can just imagine Vince and I still roaring around on our scooter 20 years from now…

Back to the Roca Mar where we find the sun setting high above us…

The boys are hungry Again!....Off to La Lomita for sopa.

We all share the sopa that came with the special…fish fillet in foil…

And sopa de lima…so delicious!

Well, it turns out that those were just appetizers. After some quick showers we walk up Hidalgo to Jason’s (and ours!) favourite restaurant, CoMoNo’s.

Jen is a fun and wonderful hostess once again…

Jason buys a shirt there that was made by waitress Noa’s brother. It’s very unique. We order waaaay too much food, but it’s all so good! Good thing Jason has a bottomless pit!

We hope you had a great holiday Jason! It was fun to share this time with you!

Jason heads back home tomorrow and back to the college grind. He carried physics and calculus text books with him but I’m afraid he didn’t open them once! Maybe on the plane! Get back to studying!

Even though we are stuffed to overflowing, we manage to find room for our usual ice cream treat. Just can’t end the evening without it! Back home where we quickly get Jason packed up and after one last game of backgammon, it’s lights out and waves on.
