Isla Journal Entry-December 31, 2007 New Year's Eve!

No sunrise again this morning. I have deduced this: at Luna D’Meil (our last visit) we were assaulted by the morning light and drawn to its rise over the sea. In Centro seeing the sunrise and sunset is so intentional.

It was a “town” day yesterday, as my sista Sue would say. The girls shopping Hidalgo, Kate and I for lunch at Alexa and Giovanni’s, the guys playing cards and watching NFL with the exception of Jon and Michael who snagged a scooter and rode off for adventure. At A&G’s Kate had green enchiladas and I a whole fried fish. It was delicious but the end result was touista which put me to bed at 8:30 missing the most amazing pizza at Sese Locos and merriment at La Pena. It was Jeremy’s second of three designated nights to go for it. I half expected to find him up here asleep in a hammock but he’s either curled up downstairs or wandering the beach somewhere. The highlight of yesterday was the wedding at Sunset Grill. Kate had trouble holding back the tears. Their music was all of our favourites-Norah Jones singing ”Come Away with Me”, the ukulele version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and a local singing “Ava Maria”. The groom and groomsmen wore khakis and white shirts and the bridesmaids - white cotton sundresses. The “room” (it was all outside in the sand) was filled with cylinders of limes and each place setting had a lime votive. Tiki torches were being lit as we left. The crescendo was the bride arriving by boat with her flower girls carrying pink sand pails of flowers. The girls commented that the bride did not look very happy. I think she was worried about the rain clouds overhead. Alas, I came home with my bad tummy and tried to mend it with TBT-tea, banana, toast. Slept for ages and I think I am better. Doug is up and we are off to shop for the New Year’s Eve dinner that we are hosting.

Took Kate to Hortenza’s yesterday. She embraced Kate like a daughter and gave her two gifts. Kate also found a pink cowboy hat in the market for 1/3 of the cost of one on Hidalgo. We are now at Sergio’s for the afternoon. The kids are off at the Avalon bridge to snorkel.
