June 7 - June 16, 2007 Trip Report & Pics, DAY 3
DAY 3 (Saturday, June 9)
Woke up around 9 again to slight overcast skies. Stefan was sound asleep, and I was sure Brandon was, too, so I tapped lightly on Amanda's door so we could head out for our massages. We were originally planning on going to Zama Beach Club, but we noticed "Spa Mexica" on Hidalgo the night before (where Spa Diamante used to be), so we walked over there. No luck. They're not opened yet (not as in yet this morning - but in not at all as far as we could tell). So, we decided to head back to the room to get our bathing suits since Zama's was the plan again.
We caught a cab and headed to Zama's. Turned out that Zama's was closed for a private gathering. Bummer! We told the cab driver that we just wanted a massage...where can we get one? "Rolandi's, a minute away." Amanda, it being her first time here and all, breathed a sigh of relief. But I was scared to death at the thought of how much this would cost, lol!
We walked into the lobby...this place is gorgeous! We asked a nice lady where the spa was, which took us through the infinity pool area and down some stairs. I decided to get the 35-minute neck/shoulder/arm/back massage for $65. Amanda got the 35-minute reflexology at the same price. They needed about 20 minutes before starting, so we headed over to their small beach area and relaxed for a bit. That's the infinity pool on the right, and the restaurant straight ahead.
Both of us agreed that it was well worth the money, and we were mush now and probably useless for the rest of the day!
We headed over to Rolandi's dock in the lagoon, and saw a bunch of jellyfish-type critters in the water. Here's a view of Rolandi's from the dock:
On our way back, we stopped by Captain Tony's to see if he was planning on going to Isla Contoy tomorrow. Yes, indeed!
The guys had been awake for a bit by the time we got back. It was time for food. It was an odd hour, and not much was opened. Brisa Mexicana was, so we sat down there. I ordered Lime Soup, which was OK. Stefan had the Pork Tacos, also just OK. They put tons of lettuce on them, which was kind of odd. The service was great. I didn't get any pics of the place or our food, but here is a pic of the French Bistro from our table (I was looking forward to eating the Chicken Cordon Bleu again that I tried last year - yum!).
Toward the end of our meal, a couple came in and sat in front of us. I remember looking at the woman, and commenting about how unhappy she looked. She put her head on the table for a bit, while her significant other tried cheering her up with a couple of jokes. She stayed put as the waitress came by to take their order. He ordered for her, the waitress stepped away, then the woman's head flew up with great force and proceeded to get very sick over the side of their table. I looked over at the waitress, who was giggling behind the bar as she grabbed some towels. When will this end? Jeez, I don't how that much can be in someone's stomach at once, but it continued for a while! OK, we are full now, paid our bill, and by the time we headed out, the couple was as happy and lovely as any couple could be.
After a short nap, we started making our way over to Sergio's. We stopped at the cemetery so our friend's could take a look.
We planted ourselves at Sergio's, and enjoyed several rounds of 2X1's.
Me & Stefan:
A view of the bar from 1/4 of the way toward the coast (the beach is incredibly wide!):
During our next couple of rounds, we all talk about how perfect everything is at the moment. Everyone is starting to truly unwind, feel the island, and appreciate the very relaxed pace. I'm so happy here being with the love of my life and the best friends we could ever ask for. Having them here with us, and experiencing it all together is really all I could ask for. :)
It's that time of day, so we head closer to the coast.
Brandon, Randall, and Stefan:
I love this picture. The flash makes it look like they're super-imposed on a backdrop. Amanda & Brandon:

And one of my favorite pictures from the trip:
After paying our tab (not nearly as ouch-worthy as we were expecting, since it was 2x1), we headed back home. We all needed to be at Captain Tony's at 9am, so we needed to be up by 8:30. But some of us ended up taking an hour long nap, which wasn't a good idea. We were up and ready to head out!
Definitely time for food. Since L'Argentine Steakhouse was right around the corner, we headed in. Although the food was not the best (I made the mistake of ordering another heavy shrimp/cheese dish, ugh), most were at least satisfied. Randall headed back home.
The rest of us decided to walk around a bit to people-watch. We saw our friend Angel, who mentioned he was playing guitar a block or so North on Hidalgo in about 20 minutes. We made our way over there, had a couple of beers and Margaritas, then watched him and the band play for a bit. Amanda is in a great band here in Dallas. Her voice is amazing. Sure enough, 5 minutes later, she was invited to sing. ;)
It was a fabulous night, but time to leave since we were headed to Contoy tomorrow morning. But somehow Cesar (a waiter and great guy from Chepo's we met the other day) convinced us that we deserved a free Tequila shot at Kokonuts first. So, we did that first, THEN headed back home!
Back to our cozy beds, we were expecting it to be well after 2am. We looked at our clocks and saw that it was only 11pm. Isn't it wonderful how time goes by so slowly here?
