Isla trip Dec 09
Better late than never, right?
This was to be a trip with my wife Holly and one of our best friends Torrey. We’ve traveled together before and always have a good time. However, only a few weeks before our trip there was a big upheaval at St. Jude where Holly works so no time off for her.
Ok, guy trip it is then. Holly has a rain check for next trip.
I didn’t keep up with a day to day journal, but here are some of the highlights.
We had a great time at the Posada. I like the new pool and palapa area. Romy’s new bar has a great view and is much larger than the old one.
View from Romi’s new palapa.
(these pics all came out small and for some reason I cant get the code to enlarge them, so the link above is to the photo album)
The new pool, palapa and new buildings.
One of the highlights of our trip was meeting Maggie and Tom from LGES, and we had a great time meeting Jonathan, a student that we are part of the sponsor team for. It was great to meet him and his family. Miguel as always was a great host for the evening.
If you have never visited the FOLGES web site, http://folges.org/, take time to go there. Maggie and Tom are doing a tremendous service to the island and they need help. Please think about getting involved as a sponsor or as a donor.
Other highlights were a breakfast at the Mercado loncherias with a friend and his family.
Qubanos was outstanding as always. Vivian is always fun to spend some time with. If you have not tried the Cuban sandwich and the Hungarian potatoes then make time next trip and you can thank me later.
We had dinner and drinks with Miguel more than once. The food is good and Miguel is always a great host.
We enjoyed spending time at Romy’s new palapa in the evening. With the view it seems a better gathering spot than the old palapa that was set so far back in the property.
We visited Cool at least once a day. Another "dont miss".
We ate marquisitas on the street - YUMMY!!!!!
I love early morning runs along the seawall, great way to start the day.
La Mexicana rotisserie is a great place for lunch. If you have never tried it you are missing one of the best meals and deals on Hidalgo.
The beach at Playa Sol is still huge and though there was a bit of wind, overall we had great weather for some beach time the whole trip.
The only real downside to our trip was Holly not being able to come with us :(
Well, there was that work thing that followed us to finish up for a deadline. But there are worse places to work than a couple of hours each morning with a beach view. Pinguinos and Romys new palapa have wireless so it made the work time much easier.
